Details below:
Bands:
SILENT DEATH
Recently revitalised veteran Death Metal monster with founder member vocalist/bassist Stone back in the line-up! Now features Matt (Disaster Funhouse) on guitar and also Joe Slaughter (ex-SIl-Khannaz) on guitar.
SILENT DEATH were among the pioneers of Thrash/Death Metal in the classic era of the Malaysian underground, existing since 1987 as BACTERIA before the name change. The band have gone through so many line-up changes along the decades, but after 12 years the mainman Stone is now back in the fold. The recent debut show they had as a guest of RATOR at 1Cafe on 7th March has proven to be awesome! Besides, we have always been in love with Stone!

CRIMESCENE
Undoubtably one of the best bands in the current Malaysian DIY punk scene; a band full of humour and reckless fun playing a mix of big-assed, lethargic stoner grooves in-between crazy blasting beats of explosive power-violence.
Diminutive singer Nobeat is a tightly-wound nerd in heat, caterwauling all over the place, screaming of personal politics and depair, while the band flits between anguished doom and utter chaos. Crimescene’s shows are events in itself!
Features members of another excellent band SARJAN HASSAN and one of the nicest men in global hardcore punk, Encik Wan Hazril of CACTUS RECORDS & DISTRO.

FREYGYLE
By the standards of the local DIY punk scene where bands existed only fleetingly before being eaten up by the big, bad wolves of the daily grind, FREYGYLE is a veteran band. The band started out in Taiping in the late 90s before moving on to Kuala Lumpur, and through out the years they have taken to recording a few tunes for two small-run EPs and several compilations.
Some friends would describe FREYGYLE as a post-melodic punk rock band, whatever that means, but the influences brought upon by classic Bad Religion, ALkaline Trio and other tuneful punk rock combos of yore are evident – rockin’ loud in the harmonic guitars department but sensitive in its ruminations; a most excellent combination.

ALWAYS LAST
From the band’s site: Always Last is a melodic punk rock band from KL. The band took its form in late 2007 with individuals who used to play or still playing in different bands – Tobek (previously in Fags & Stoned), Bulat (Part Time Lovers/Galaga/Hi-Score), Min (Skunkfix/Naratu/Thy Regimen) and Shah (The Mindless Show/Disgruntled).
A review of ALWAYS LAST debut CD on MRR said: “if Fat Wreck Chords ever opens up a Malaysian office, then Always Last ought to be the first signing. They have managed to distill that signature “Fat Sound” (i.e Bad Religion filtered through the lens of NOFX, ending up like a cross between No Use For A Name, Good Riddance, and Propagandhi), sing in perfect english, and faithfully reproduce the variety melodic pop-punk styles that early Randy did so well. Always Last, of course, might scoff at the likes of Fat. The lyrics and liner notes are staunchly independent/diy-’til-death…”
All we can add is; ALWAYS LAST play it fast, faster and furious!
KELADAK
It’s our duty to highlight new bands at our shows, and KELADAK is the show piece for Rice Above! #04. We discovered KELADAK at a Frinjan show in Shah Alam a few months ago and the band passed us a 3-track self-titled CD-R.
For want a better term, we would describe KELADAK as a Malay Folk-Rock band and they are very good at it; mixing heartfelt singer-songwriter intimacy, rootsy American stadium-rock and jazzy Malay pop numbers.
