Radio Clash: Alternative Rock Show’s Bastard Son
It’s has been on air for months now, but I only caught one episode so far, and it’s alright. The show I heard had mostly big bands who are/were on the charts and TV shows all over the world ‚Äì bands on the “alt-rock” side of things, from current Brit-Pop to old Indie-Rock. There are also interviews with local bands, the show I heard had Lied, but I thought it was too short.
Anyway, all of you punkrockers and fans of the more esoteric, non-charting, unheard-ofs, real underground shit would need to stick to them podcasts and net radios Ricecooker listed on the right bar. Me? I like listening to Klasik FM. Sign up here and stream some classics from the 40s to the 70s! An all Malay pop show that sometimes features great tracks from old movies played on scratchy VINYL!! FRom R. Azmi & The Commandos to Mat Daud Kilau, dudes!
OK, back to Radio Clash, there are two DJs, both pretty good music critics at The Star newspaper, one is my good friend Daryl Goh.
Here’s his email:
All you good, good people,
In case you didn’t already know: Clash is on the air weekly every Sunday for two hours from 10pm, playing everything indie from The Flaming Lips, Blur, Franz, Kaiser, Poxes, Smiths, Stone Roses, Teenage Fanclub, Pumpkins, Pavement, Sonic Youth, Mogwai, White Stripes, Super Furry Animals, Stooges, Postcard/Creation, Velvet Underground, Beatles, Beach Boys, Mary Chain, Primal Scream, Roxy, Big Star, Dinosaur Jr, New Order and beyond……..
This Sunday, Clash will present its 2005 Yearender edition. For your New Year Day’s listening pleasure, Clash will take a two hour look back at some the best releases of 2005, along with usual doses of Classic Cuts Almost Famous and ClashChat to keep you glued to the radio after all that Xmas turkey. Off the top of my head, I‚Äôm pretty sure that LCD Soundsystem will feature some where on the show. Album of the year? Single of the year? The sublime Love Kraft by Super Furry Animals will also be there, seeing as it has been glued to the car stereo for months as well; the excellent reissue of Funhouse by The Stooges blew me when it arrived earlier in the year, Supergrass had a good album‚Ķ.
Clash returns with the 2005 lowdown this Sunday at 10pm. Send any playlist suggestions or comments to clash@thestar.com.my. Contributions of any kind are most welcome.
So once again, it’s Clash making a comeback on Jan I, 2006 playing your indie rock.
Peace and a very Happy New Year!
