OH CHENTA KU – Heartbreak Ridge Was Never This Arrogant CD
OH CHENTA KU
Heartbreak Ridge Was Never This Arrogant CD
(Delicate Entertainment / Intrude Records)
Oh Chenta Ku’s mainman Myo dropped a few copies of this debut album at the shop on Sunday and this is the first time I have the time to sit and listen to it.
This is a Kelana Jaya indie-rock trio with big slashes of new emo, post-hardcore and antiseptic pop-punk in the mix. The album is very cleanly-produced and presented with much care (there’s a free see-thru, blue plastic bag with each CD) while the sleeve art is all nice and elaborate vector webdings.
At this point, I must confess that my continuing tendency to ignore the mainstream end of what is now called as rock music is taking its toll here. I’m not very well informed of all that MTV/Channel V teen-rock and OCK has pretty much aligned its radars within that demographics.
If you’re into that sort of entertainment then I must say this is a fine album for you. All the moves you’re expecting are all in their places, and very well done too. There are full on indie-rock songs, there are the high-energy guitar-swinging rock-outs and of course, there’s the obligatory slow emotive pop one with an acoustic guitar and atmospheric keyboards.
A good friend told me an American band by the name of Fall Out Boy would be a descriptive example of what OCK is doing. I’m not going to investigate further though.
