Leaving Normal: 360º Head Rotation’s guitarist Jack Nathan

Jack Nathan, beloved and much respected guitarist of 360DHR passed away last night in an accident. Details are currently sketchy but 360DHR’s Rafil mentioned in his sms that it was a hit and run. Rafil who was in the UK when he wrote added that the wake for Jack will be held at no.6, Jalan SS3/32, PJ and that the funeral will be held 4 PM tomorrow (Monday) at the Kg Tunku’s Crematorium.
I’m a big fan of Jack’s guitar playing and am very proud and thankful to have made good acquaintance with the amazing guy. We first met when I stumbled onto a set by 360DHR at the old Paul’s Place a few years ago. It was a major kick especially because I have been keeping a copy of their demo tape since the early 90s and also included one of the songs (Sunrise) on the first Aedes Radioshow comp tape I made.
That night 360DHR played that song and I was totally in awe! I knew that song very well but I have never met the guys responsible for it. Right there and then we became good friends.
At the moment I don’t know what to say really. This is a shock, a huge loss for us all. I was planning to call the band for an Unclogged show after raya and also greatly anticipating the release of their first album.
I’m gonna miss the man. Condolences to all Jack’s friends and family.

Here’s what rafil wrote on the APA list:
“Jack Nathan, lead guitarist for 360 Degree Head Rotation and a close friend of over 15 years, was killed last night in a hit and run accident last night Sat 23 Sept 2006. Jack would have been 41 years old on 6 Oct 2006.
Funeral is tomorrow, Monday 25 October 2006 at Kampung Tunku Crematorium. I assume there’ll be services today and tomorrow at his sister’s house: No 6 Jalan SS3/32 – Kelana Jaya.”
Here’s more clues to what actually happened to Jack last night, as posted by Hasbee on his Geekrawk blog:
“I spoke to Deepak, Jack‚Äôs close friend. Apparently Jack‚Äôs car broke down as he was heading back home from somewhere and he called his housemate to help. The line was bad, all I could understand was that Jack ended up cycling back home and that‚Äôs when he got hit.”

for what it’s worth i am glad i shared the few peaceful and significant moments with someone like the late jack nathan; an awesome guitar player, and the humblest, most accomodating human being. i thank god for the few talks about guitar and gear and blues and hendrix i had had with him over the years whenever i saw him.
i even played his classic electric once — which was a huge honour!
it was really moving to see hassan brown busy and teary-eyed helping jack’s family with the funeral rituals. it was a pity his lifelong friend, kindred spirit and bandmate rafil couldn’t attend.
my heart goes out to jack’s family and loved ones, as well as rafil and all his friends who will miss him as a person and as a great guitar player and musician.
one love and rest in peace jack nathan…
