One of the few rare local DIY punk bands more attuned to the old-school punk rock of yore instead of the current overwhelming fever of crust and d-beat; THE GARRISON mixes abrasive ’77 snot with the punky-reggae party of the period, updated with local socio-political issues previously untouched by many bands round here. i like both old and new The Garrison releases. Sure, it’s something different than what people want their band to sound like. Keep up the good work!
On the other note, I would say that they remind me a bit of Jesse Michaels (ex-Operation Ivy) old new band called Common Rider, a heavily reggae influenced punk band. The only difference to me is that Common Rider had a more bend towards pop-ish melodies compared to The Garrison. It’s too bad that not many people noticed this band.
Their second release (2001) on Lookout! called “Thief In A Sleeping Town” had more punk urgency compared to their other releases. Lyrically? oh if you like Operation Ivy, you’ll surely like Common Rider too. They released 1 more album and a split on Hopeless.

Common Rider broke up after releasing a split with Against All Authority but just recently Jesse started another band called Classics Of Love (a Common Rider’s song title). It sounds like Common Rider, without the reggae, that means more punk!
Not to confuse people, maybe i was wrong here and there in the previous comment. Common Rider did not sound like The Garrison. i mentioned Common Rider because I thought that they share the same similarities on the influences here and there in their music, which is reggae influenced, and i think the energy and urgency in their punked up songs are quite similar.
Common Rider might sound a little bit more like a modernized version of punk rock with hints of 3rd wave ska, some reggae here and there.
On the other hand, The Garrison sounds are more on ’77 punk sounds and they play straight up reggae tunes as well.
