Fanzui Xiangfa: Southeast Asian Tour 2009
note: Fanzui Xiangfa visited the shop yesterday evening and we had a nice time hanging out, complete with a 44 minutes interview, and yes the rumour is right one of them (Jonas) played guitar for DS-13, and he’s also the original drummer of Abhinanda before joining Separation etc. Jonas and his brothers have always been heavily involved in the Ume?• hardcore scene, especially bands such as Refused & The International Noise Conspiracy and the label Ny V?•g (home for The Regulations and all that’s good in Sweden now!).

Beijing Hardcore-Punk! Rumoured to feature ex-DS13 kids, consisting of three expats and one chinese, and the first true DIY hardcore-punk band in Beijing etc. etc.
I’m not sure about all that but it does feature our good friend Nevin Domer, who came to KL for a visit along with South Korea’s The Geeks back in early 2007. Nevin who used to study in South Korea is now in Beijing, involved with the D-22 Club (one of the best alternative spaces there) and also the increasingly awesome label, Maybe Mars (which feature one of my newest personal faves, Carsick Cars).
Besides, Fanzui Xiangfa is an awesome band, the rest doesn’t matter, just listen to this:

it was a good night out. never been to SSS before, so it an eye opener for me too. great space! love the red and black. the bands were all good. but i must admit i missed Foliage. was outside smoking.
Deng Deng and friends had a good time I saw. They play kinda straight-up fast basic, punkish rock with some post-punk influences and some remnants of grunge. Fangzui rocks the best that night, including the Misfits and Naked Raygun covers. Crimescene was good too but i believe Man’s guitar was a bit outta tune. Never seen them before but heard the tape. Not far from the tape stuff, stoner riffage flits between fast craziness.
and yes, happy birthday to Haq. Sorry tak makan upstairs, we went down to the mamak; the tandoori was awesome. tanya nizang kalu tak percaya boss!

BTW: Fangzui will be back on June 1st and according to Arwith, there may be a show on for them that day at Noisy. Not confirmed though.
cool! pity me for not being able to make it there on wednesday’s night. yeah, just spoken to the band and awirth, a show is planned at noisy by the crew (ijat and friends) on 2nd june. think they’ll post the updates soon, once it’s ready for sure.
