Leaving Normal: Lang Kuchalana 1977-2008
Our dear old friend Wan Hazlan @ Lan, the ex-bassist of the reggae/punk band Kuchalana, died around 1.30 PM today. Lan, affectionately known amongst friends as “Lang” (due to his Terengganu origins), was allegedly beaten-up severely by an unknown number of assailants after being abducted from the vicinity of the KLCC at about 10.30 PM last night.
Grieving friends and family are now at the KL General Hospital; some of them been there since 6 AM this morning. (written 2.20 PM)

UPDATE (11.35 PM / Wednesday, 16th July) – Lan’s jenazah is now on the way back to Kemaman, Terengganu. According to childhood friend and Kuchalana’s singer/guitarist Yus, it’s possible that Lan will be buried at around 1 or 2 AM this morning. Yus and Hakim are both back there to facilitate matters with the family.

UPDATE (Noon / Thursday, 17th July): According to Yus, Lan’s jenazah telah selamat dikebumikan at a cemetery in his kampung at about 4 AM last night. Yus also said that he heard from Lan’s family that the main suspect has been arrested, while one of the two accomplices has surrendered to the police.

Thank’s to all who rushing out to the hospital after getting my calls or Yus this morning…It was a long,tired and moody sad day…My phone’s ringing around 5.30 yesterday morning, a very shocked call from Tojeng rushed me to come to General Hospital immediately… ” Lang dlm keadaan kritikal dah ni… 90 – 10 dah..teruk” without asking why, i’m getting a cab and heading straight to GH…
Arrived there and seen Yus,Tojeng and Jaja.. i’m heading straight into the critical room accompanied by Tojeng and there’s Lang lying unconsciously with blood spurting all over and with the doctor’s busy clean it up here and there…
I’m shaking all over with random thoughts in my head keep saying that lang was in heavy road accidents..
But it’s all slipping out cos actually he was beaten to death by 3 “Unknown” assailant. Abducted from the vicinity of the KLCC at about 10.30 PM last night then they bring Lang to Ulu Yam and do the fucking heavy beating there…
Panic due to Lang already in coma and then they bring him to Tawakal Hospital around 3.45 something and leave him there…
Then around 4.00 ,Tawakal Hospital send Lang to GH due to nobody’s gonna pay their thousand ringgit worth of bills.
Cut the story short, it was so sad and we all still in heavy big shock. All of us who were at the hospitals still cannot believed this happened because to those who knows Lang, he was such a very nice guy and soft spoken, easy on everybody’s and everybody’s will go easy with him..
And around 1.30pm in Neurology ward, after struggling with all the pain, Lang finally Rest in Peace..with all the Family members and friends were there.
it was all due to severe brain damage and broken bones all over his skull, broken spine and a lots of blood clogging inside the brain.
May God Bless His Soul On a safe journey to a better place than here…
Kuchalana will never be the same again without Lang…
So,maybe we’ll let Kuchalana live together with Lang forever…..

just read my rss feed just now. whaddehell happened? this is very shocking. i don’t know what to say. lang’s a very peaceful man. i know this first hand when working with him a couple of years ago. he’s one of those few nice, humble, and funny guy. damn i still can’t believe this is happening.
why was he kidnapped and beaten?
i remember sometime ago when he saved a lady from being robbed somewhere in pudu and chased down the robber and got the lady back her handbag. is it the same guy getting revenge?

I personally do not know Lang but Zemang is my good old friend since our school days. Through Zemang, I listen to Kuchalana music and enjoy their style of playing ever since. Since we come from the same state, we somehow understand each other well and share the same feeling.
I’m sorry to hear this news and from the bottom of my heart, I offer condolence to his family, relatives and friends. May his soul rest in peace.
